What is Thrive Across America?
Thrive Across America is a voluntary online physical activity program where you travel through all eight Kaiser Permanente regions and Program Offices/IT by recording exercise minutes and moving along a virtual trail, from east to west across America, in the following order:
- Mid-Atlantic States
- Northern California
- Program Offices/IT
- Southern California
Along the way you’ll learn about the people and places that make Kaiser Permanente thrive as well as great sites to visit in each region.Back to top
Who can participate?
All Kaiser Permanente employees, physicians, and dentists as well as employees of the Coalition of KP Unions and partner unions can participate in Thrive Across America.Back to top
How does it work?
Each time you record exercise minutes, you move along a virtual trail that winds through the regions. Your goal is to achieve 150 minutes or more of exercise a week — aiming for at least 30 minutes, five days a week. Choose any activity you like… if it gets your heart pumping and increases your breathing rate, it counts toward the Thrive Across America goal.Back to top
Is Thrive Across America for all fitness levels?
Yes — whether you’re an experienced exerciser or just starting out, Thrive Across America gives you simple, motivating tools to track your progress and see results. Consistency is the key to success in any health improvement, so Thrive Across America provides practical tips, articles on starting and sticking to an exercise program, delicious healthy recipes, and a team competition to strengthen your daily commitment.Back to top
Is there a limit to the amount of exercise I can record in a day?
No. But the Thrive Across America program is designed to encourage a consistent, lasting exercise habit. So although you can record any amount of physical activity in a day, your progress on the trail is limited to 60 minutes a day. And 60 minutes is the maximum daily amount each team member can contribute to the team’s score.Back to top
What happens if I can’t exercise for 30 minutes or more on a given day?
All exercise — even a brisk 10-minute walk — is good for you. So take advantage of any opportunity to add activity to your day and record your progress. But for long-term success, try to set aside at least 30 minutes at the same time each day so that you can get into a routine. Even if something keeps you from exercising one or two days, aim for 150 or more minutes of dedicated exercise a week.Back to top
What activities can I do in Thrive Across America?
Any activity counts if it increases your heart rate and respiration, and can be sustained for 10 minutes or more. If you participate in team sports or other activities with a lot of rest time, log only the minutes you’re moving.Back to top
Do I have to record my exercise online every day?
It’s not required, but recording your activity daily lets you enjoy the full experience of Thrive Across America as you watch your individual and team progress along the trail.Back to top
What’s the difference between KP Walk! and Thrive Across America?
KP Walk! (www.kpwalk.com) is a program that encourages participants to step up their walking activity. Participants track walking minutes on a variety of virtual trails in the U.S. and throughout the world. Thrive Across America is a physical activity program (not just walking) that focuses specifically on Kaiser Permanente regions, locations, and people.Back to top
What if I have questions about the program?
Use the Contact link at the bottom of each page on the website. A Thrive Across America representative will respond within one business day.Back to top
